The main theme of video is two sides of characteristic of water. Water is essential in our lives. It is one of the fundamental components of our body, the habitats of animal, and the resource for industrial manufacture. Also, it creates places for various recreations and activities. We can create energetic public spaces by utilizing water as one of the elements of landscape, while we should concern about the possibility of water pollution. This video shows the contrast between tranquil scene of waterfront and repulsive scene of waterfront. Furthermore, the transition scene between contrasting scenes represents the ironic character of water. The polluted water looks like abstract paintings and beautiful in a way, but the quality of water is actually toxic and hazardous to nature. It means that water is useful elements of landscape design, while we have to consider the purification of it. We visited some site where the water have been polluted by industrial facilities such as Newtown Creek and Gowanus Canal. And we realized how the purification of water is difficult and takes long time. However, the new waterfront landscape still seems to be polluted by cruise, helicopters and visitors. It mostly considers designs of recreation places and rising waters. We should think about creating public and community landscapes and filtration of water simultaneously.

hi jinsung,

thanks for posting the first draft. there are some very interesting shots in the film (the "plan" shot of the gowanus water pollution, with sun in the lower right corner is great), but i think that the film overall lacks a certain clarity: it's not because all the shots have water in them that the film makes sense! the shot at rockaway beach is really more about the horizon, for example, and less about water.

i would think about the sound in the film as well, right now you are simply using "raw" sound at each site, which does not support your theme.
