Today we traversed a variety of different parks along a transect from the Brooklyn Bridge Park to the Floyd Bennett Field adjacent to the Jamaica Bay. Unlike previous days where the parks we visited were categorized to that day (ex. Day 3 involved industrial sites, Day 2 involved the waterfront, etc.) today was more about exploring Brooklyn as a category in its own right. Currently Brooklyn is one of the more significant locations for increased development, which is why the sites visited today range from the 20-21st century to currently being phased today. It is very important to look further into the differences between the sites developed during different periods in time.
With that being said, it is also important to look at the juxtaposition found within a single site. The videos below show the differences of views in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Pier 1 is primarily covered in vegetation and green space while Pier 2 is primarily dedicated to being a sport center. These two differences show the potential of the park to attract a variety of different users to the site with programs ranging from rollerblading to walking through a park along the center of New York CIty.
