This jump cut combines the view from the Newtown Creek Nature Walk and a meadow at Storm King Art Center. I took these images to show the different ways a sea can be interpreted as landscape. At Newtown creek the sea is literal. While it is a creek it is very massive. This shot was cut so that it appears to be taken while floating on the water. In the background are the bulkhead wall opposite the nature walk, with trucks and industry all over. Behind that is the great city. Both of these views let you take in the beauty and mass of the surrounding landscape while being peacefully secluded from it. On the right is a beautiful meadow at Storm King. This was breathtaking as we had just come from the Andy Goldsworthy wall in the background but I had turned around to take this full landscape in. With the rolling mountains in the background and simple elegance of the wall cutting across it I was nearly in tears. While I definitely lean more towards the wild fuzziness of the Art Center, I can appreciate the beauty in the built environment of NYC.
