James Tynan - Tidal Forces

I took this video on the beach in Staten Island of the tide crashing against the remnants of some pilings. I chose to use this video because the tide and its effect on the shores of Staten Island were the main focus of the tour and the Scape Living Breakwaters project. I thought that this was both visually interesting and indicative of how the shore is eroded by the relentless force of the tides washing upon it.

Please include your name, I'm really not sure sometimes who is posting what! There was a similar shot in SCAPE's promotional video projected on the CNC model, where a dotted line marking the movement of the tide moved from right to left. In their case, the camera recorded hours or even days of tidal activity, presented in accelerated form, and later annotated with typical drawing elements (dotted line).

According to the promotional brochure, the pilings used to support a pier that extended into the bay; there were later a series of hotels built along the waterfront as well. The large sandbags and pilings both constitute evidence of unrelenting forces eating away at this fragile shoreline.
