Today we looked at a site in development that is relatively close to where I live; The Conference House Park. Located at the bottom of Staten Island, this park connects to the waterfront at a very critical point. It is adjacent to the Raritan Bay, Raritan River, and the Arthur Kill which connects to waterways such as the Newark Bay and the Pasaic River. With that being said, this still shot shows the current conditions at this critical point. Although there are various native grasses present, the beach/park has its own share of problems involving invasive species. Phragmites appears in relatively large clusters that opened up during natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy. The common reeds can be seen at the far right of the video below.
