My very first impression of New York City is just like what the song sings: concrete jungle, however, with 2 days journey, it’s surprisingly for me to see that there is quite an amount of public gardens hide in the city.
Among all the things that a public garden fascinates me, the comparison between vegetation and building ranks the first.

View changing from the bottom to the top. Irish Hunger Memorial sites opposite to the financial district, behind the memorial is Hudson River. So the landscape is changing from water, to park, then to concrete.
Developers will be so happy to work with an excellent landscape architect, a nice surrounding will improve the experience of living, consequently improves the price. Teardrop park, designed by Michael Van Valnenburgh, which suppose to be a public place but surrounded by residential towers. His manipulations on the artificial topography successfully insert a nice garden into the neighborhood. Looking from lower level people notice that there is such a large park hiding in the buildings, once walk up with the stairs, it is like going to a new world: wide, open bright. Meanwhile, a giant artificial wall sits in the middle, in order to separate the active part.
Living in a place that has both concrete jungle and urban garden is definitely a good thing; people will always have a place to take a deep breath.
