To the future class of LSA 496,
Get ready to lose some weight. i know i did. In all honesty, the class was really awesome. even though i live so close by it would ave taken me years to actually visit all these sites. The class gave me the perfect opportunity to visit everything ive always heard about but was never quite sure how to get there. Martin did a great job on keeping us on track and getting us where we needed to go even though me might have taken an extra block or two ;).
I found every day to be more exciting then the day before even if i felt more tired. i think the greatest experience was getting all the tours from the accomplished firms. You always hear about these guys and you forget they are just people like you and me, some just a little bit quirkier. I thought Tom Balsley was awesome ive never paid attention so much then i did to him. i find all his work to be so detailed an caring to both culture and ecology. I also enjoyed Brooklyn Grange, ive always wanted to go but never had a chance. Its amazing what can be accomplished in such an area if only more people knew about it we could really fix this place we call home a lot quicker.
One thing i wish was different was a little bit more free wayfinding from one place to the next. Christian and I found ourselves straying off paths to find the many hidden parts of the city that should really be highlighted. There is more than just the big name parks that everyone knows. outside of every house and shop are small microcosms of landscape. Many add together to create a grid of culture and history that i find really interesting. Thanks Martin and class for one of the best weeks of my summer.
