My focus was on the pathways, trails, and walkways near rivers/water features in New York City. I wanted to showcase how they changed according to their purpose and design type. I also felt that the views were really important in influencing the energy of a space. If I am walking along a pier, look out to the water and see a bunch of dead fish and garbage, I would feel uneasy and concerned. Contrastingly, If I am strolling passed a water fountain and see a few of ducks playing and swimming with one another, I'd feel more comfortable and relaxed. Walking and sitting area designs are constantly influenced/inspired by where it is located in relationship to bodies of water and water features. I believe it is important to note the successful and not-so-successful strategies of creating such an important space of constant motion.
