For my final I decided to make a video comparing Riverside Park and the East River Park. I used split screen and then mirrored aspects of each park next to each other. I began my video with a shot of the NYC Sky line to represent the entering of the park. To close off the video I ended with a shot of the subway which is representing the leaving of the parks. I believe this represents  how different these two parks are even though they are very much connected. There are many similarities and differences in both park but it's clear which one is cared for more. Could it be because of the neighborhood, the industrial pasts or just the money available? Hopefully in the next few years both parks will be put to the same standard but until then we can enjoy both for the uniqueness each brings.
Hope you enjoy my video!

very clear theme, and consistent use of a limited number of techniques like the split screen, which was also used effectively by wenhui. you're making us pay attention to the small, mundane stuff within the landscape. good work!

Many times we over look the mundane that make a landscape enjoyable. I really think this video gives you an appreciation for things that many take advantage of. For example we need water fountains yet we never think of them as making a landscape but they really do add to one.

.... there is a kind of dry quality to the film (i.e. here is an image of a drinking fountain), i'm not sure whether it is meant to be really funny or really serious... i think it could be both!

I have a very dry and dark sense of humor so that's probably why it almost seems that way. I enjoy when things are very raw and real instead of flowery and almost hidden. The city is gross in when it comes to some aspects and it shouldn't be hidden but embraced.

The split techniques are used very well but I am a little confused about some shoots. The comparison between some shoots are not as much strong as the rest of the video. I do like your theme and I think the way you made this video very clear because of the details you showed in it.

Many aspects of each park were very different but have the same function even though they look and feel different, that's why I put them next to each other.

Very interestingly done. I appreciate the split technique used to differentiate the two sides but there is not a clear indication of what makes the two sides unique. For example, the broad areas you covered on both sides have no specific landscape architectural style. Both sides jump from modern to basic and every where in between. If the things you filmed on each side(water fountain, sports areas, water features) had a common theme or style, it would have been easier to follow and differentiate between the two sides.

I do, however, praise you for finding the parallel features on both the west and east end. The fact that you were able to compile a series of similar spaces from the two sides are very interesting and, I am assuming, is hard to do!

The uniqueness I left for the viewer to find for themselves. I feel like there is more of a "for show" feeling at Riverside while at the East River Park there is more of a "community" based feel. This is because one is less "perfected" than the other.

The split screen is very helpful, theme is clear. These small element in the environment is easy being ignored but is very important.

Thank You!
I wanted to focus on elements that make a landscape complete and these elements in my video are things that allow communities to enjoy there surroundings.

It's really clear to compare both side of waterfront of Manhattan. The split screen is clever way to show directly similarity and difference of East and West waterside. I think you did a lot of effort to combining all of elements of landscape, while it's little broad to specifically compare the character of each side. For instance, if you show more similarity and differences of diverse design strategies of rails or chairs like patterns or materials, it could be more effective way to compare two side of NYC.

Thank You, I will keep that in mine. I wanted to stick to structures not so much the patterns because the design style is very similar on both sides.

Your film is really clear to show the theme. And i think that comparison between two park is thoughtful and helpful. So maybe a conclusion at the end of this film will be good idea? I am not sure...

Anyway, it is a great work!

The leaving the train part at the end is the conclusion to make is seem as though you are leaving the parks.

Hey Crystal! I think your theme is very clear, you showed us not only the comparison of different sites but also the activities happened in each site, it is great! But a little advise, even though your film is all consisted of vertical screen shots, most of them is combined into a split screen into a full screen. If the last screen of the sub strain could be changed into horizontal, the film will looks even better!

Thank you for your suggestion. I wanted everything to face the same way but when I tried to make the subway fit the screen in looked stretched out a bit like a cartoon. I thought this way was better ascetically.

Cmoney- I really enjoyed the fact that you used two different photos to represent features of the park, because sometimes we do only see half of whats actually there. Im glad you didn't use much sound because it might have taken away from the rawness of the film. Over and out
